welcome all love letter readers
by Kim McManus

I could do what I, Kim McManus, usually do and just write a simple letter of welcome to Mosaic SHE Community; but can I just be honest and let you read something a bit personal — a page from my not-so-great day?

The following are love letters of sorts between my friend, Kim Hoelterhoff (Kim H) — a warrior with an ocean-capacity of wisdom — and me. Kim lives in England and I wish her here but God keeps me in Los Angeles and keeps moving her all over the world...

---------------

Kim (H),
Three things that are really true:
1.  God will not hide his beautiful love from me.
2.  I am my enemy.
3.  Hope is dripping from the ceilings.

Sorry if the truth is both providential and humanly ugly. I hope people meet Jesus before they meet me. I make such a bad impression.

There is so much of my heart that is unwritten and stuck today that I can only hope that the “change dust” descends from the throne of God or I might be stuck forever. Change is desperately needed in every corner of my being. I know I’m deceived if I believe that this change is God’s responsibility and not mine.

The other Kim (M)

-----

My friend,
You won’t be stuck forever but I hope that you can be stuck as long as you need to be. Sometimes good things happen when we’re stuck. I love God meeting Hagar by the thornbush when she thought her son was dying. I love Peter on the water — waves thrashing at his feet as he started to sink. Joseph in the well and Jonah in the whale and Esther and David and Daniel and Mary and Joseph — and who in the Bible wasn’t stuck somehow? That’s the beginning of our story. Now what’s the rest?

I am loving Psalm 18 these days. I will read this tonight and I will pray this for you. I pray for you to feel God lifting you up out of the deep waters and rescuing you, taking you to the spacious place, rescuing you because He delights in you.

You are my friend in the unspoken things because you get pain and because you dare to keep walking even when you feel like you will sink. And you have such a marvelous laugh.

Love and Hope,
Kim (H)

---------------

Sweet wisdom and encouragement from a friend.
A word of hope spoken over a desperate stranger.
True kindness shown to a hungry soul.
Eye contact.
Smiles.
Hand on a shoulder.
An email of friendship from across the sea … writes itself on a life.

God calls us to be His creative expression of love to others. Whether in the living room, the boardroom, or the classroom, we are each a breathing-heart-beating-spirit-filled-creature with the power of being His love letter to change the world. The choice is mine ... and yours, to make the letter beautiful, passionate, honest, and life-giving. Take a moment and enjoy the person next to you. Give her a great story to read ... YOURS!

"You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone."
–2 Corinthians 3:2
